Club Information

Our Ice Surface

Barrie Curling Club has seven (7) sheets of ice available for curling with scheduled play from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M.   Practice times are posted at the Club and are subject to revision.  Our sheets are  maintained by Dwight Hermiston  who has been making ice for over 20 years.   We take pride in the quality of our ice surface and we want to protect the suIce Technician - Dwightrface that Dwight prepares and maintains.  To this end, we ask regular players and visitors to take care not to damage the ice surface and to report ice issues to the ice technician promptly for attention.  We ask that bare hands not be left on the ice surface after delivery of a stone, as this can dent the ice surface.  Also, if you are leaving the ice between draws to go outside for any reason (example – for a cigarette), please do not wear your curling shoes, as the  grit and debris will pit the ice and scour the sliding surface of curling shoes.  Prior to going on the ice from the lower lounge, clean your shoes with the shoe cleaners available at each entrance to the sheets. Dwight can be contacted at the club at dwighth@barriecurlingclub.com.

Our Curling Stones

In Feb & March of 2010, our curling stones were re-finished after almost 30 years of continuous use.  This provides up to 4 feet of curl and fairly good rock speed.   In Oct 2010, the Ontario Curling Tour brought the Barrie Sleeman Cash Spiel to our club.  Feedback on the ice from players was excellent!  Garth Mitchell, who skipped a team at this spiel, commented favourably on the “fabulous ice surface”.   We continue to thank and acknowledge our ice maker Dwight Hermiston for his tireless work in providing excellent ice.

Facility Rentals

Barrie Curling Club makes its facilities available for  private bonspiels and both the ice and lounge facilities can be booked through the general office.  Ice time may be rented for  fund-raiser spiels or special corporate events.

Additionally, the area of the playing surface is available off season for vendors who require a fairly large “showroom” area for their products.   Vendors can arrange dates with the General Office.

Lounge Facilities

The upper lounge area is well appointed with comfortable lounge seating and a casual dining room.    The menu has lots of tasty choices and daily specials at very moderate prices.   Members and their guests can enjoy casual dining and a beverage from our bar.    Barkeep - DaveDave Mclean is our Club Services Manager and will handle all related functions that require food and beverages in the lounge.   He can be contacted at: davem@barriecurlingclub.com

A big screen TV is available and each sheet of ice has closed circuit TV that shows the outer end of the sheet.   Additionally, the area is equipped with a sound system for corporate events.

The dining room is available for rentals to members and outside groups for small and large events - birthday parties to wedding receptions.   The dining room/lounge can seat 140 people quite comfortably though we are licensed for 200.    Contact the office to schedule a viewing of the facility and an appointment to plan your event.  Plan early to avoid disappointment.
